URGENT
After conducting detailed research to obtain some of the financial data TNA were unwilling to provide, we have submitted a set of alternative suggestions to TNA’s proposed savings, as well as some service improvements we would like to see made.
They are contained on the ‘News and Views’ page on this website as a PDF download. Send us your comments about these suggestions, or submit your thoughts to TNA direct.
TNA’s plans will be announced on Thursday 24 September at the next public User Forum, to be held at Kew from 12.15pm. Please try to attend, and make your voice heard.
It was with total disbelief that 14 days ago the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland announced that it would CLOSE TOTALLY to the public from September 2010 to May/June 2011 {a 9 month period} to facilitate the removal of the archive to new premises. This is on top of the disruption of the past year during which sections of the archive have closed in rotation in preparation for this move, a mile or two across Belfast. In other words to move this archive will take the PRONI staff 2 years and 9 months, including a 9 month total closure. This of course is a ludicrous situation that only civil servants could envisage.
It could never happen in the private sector.
We need your support to have this decision reversed. It will affect so many people in so many different ways, including genealogists, overseas visitors, students, writers, solicitors, the list is endless.
Can I ask you to send a protesting e.mail to the Minister Nelson McCausland at dcal@dcalni.gov.uk
and to the Director of Public Record Office of Northern Ireland at proni@dcalni.gov.uk
This outrageous decision must be challanged now and you help will be greatly appreciated
Thank you
my best regards
Robert Williams
